info
We offer 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 hours trips. On these trips, we can carry up to six paying passengers. We target reef/bottom dwellers such as: gag grouper, red snapper, triggerfish, beeliners, mangrove snapper and red grouper on all of the trips. We may also do some trolling for king mackeral, dolphin (mahi-mahi/dorado) and wahoo. Two rods are rigged at all times for the opportunity to present a bait to any cobia (ling) spotted.
The length of the trip determines how far we can go to fish and what species we can target. On ten hour trips, we usually run about twenty miles offshore. Eleven hour trips can push to twenty five to thirty miles. Twelve hour trips and up we can get well offshore and have good potential to catch a much larger variety of fish.
Weather and sea conditions dictate the speed we can safely operate and ultimately, how far offshore we can go.
We can run overnight trips to the tuna and billfishing grounds for groups of up to four anglers. On overnighters, USCG regulations mandate two captains. With a crew of three and four anglers, sleeping accommodations are all taken, with one crew member being awake at all times.
We would leave the dock around midday to make a slow run towards 72 nautical miles offshore. We would stop and catch live bait on the way, and depending on the anglers' desires, we would stop and bottom fish or rig fish on the way out. The night would be spent jigging, chunking and live bait fishing for black and yellowfin tuna. With sunrise, the trolling gear comes out and we work the morning bite until it dissipates, or the anglers wish to head in to fish for Red Snapper, Amberjack or just head in.
This trip requires some lead time so I can get a second captain lined up.
Dauphin Island is home of the United States largest saltwater fishing tournament, "The Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo". There are a myriad of other tournaments fished during the spring and summer months from Dauphin Island as well. We would be glad to take your group out during these events. The best advice I can give you is to book early.
It should also be noted that the boat owner typically has the MAR-T booked for the duration of the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo.
Trip pricing is based upon the number of hours the trip is. See the following for current pricing:
10 hour trip $1375
11 hour trip $1513
12 hour trip $1650
13 hour trip $1788
14 hour trip $1925
Overnight trip $3300 - please call well in advance
Deposits are required on all trips. We ask a 50% deposit to hold the MAR-T for your desired date. A date is officially booked when I have received the deposit money.
Customary deckhand tip is 15% of the trip price. For example, on a ten hour trip, ($1200), the tip is $180.
Fish are cleaned and bagged at a rate of $0.30 per pound of caught weight. For example, your crew catches 200 pounds of fish, the cleaning fee is $60. You are more than welcome to clean your own fish or take them home whole.
Weather cancellations
It will be up to the captain to cancel the trip due to weather conditions. He knows the boat and in what conditions it is safe and comfortable to fish. If the weather forces us to cancel your trip, we will first try to reschedule to another date. If that proves to be impractical or impossible, 100% or your deposit money will be refunded.
Other cancellations
In today's hectic world, everyone's lives are full of demands and responsibilities. Should something unforeseen arise in your life, we will gladly refund your deposit given at least two weeks notice. If this is not possible, we may, at the captain's discretion, reschedule your trip to a later date or even the following year.
I suggest a hat or visor. A good pair of polarized sunglasses or at least those with UV protection. Sunscreen of at least 30 spf. A hand towel: fish and bait get pretty messy, and it is rare I can keep hand towels on board for long. Proper footware. Something to eat and plenty to drink. We do not mind if you want to bring alcoholic beverages onboard. However, keep it within reason. Glass bottles are not allowed on board.
I do not mind if you want to bring one or two rods on board. We provide quality gear suited for the fish we will be targeting. However, there is only so much rod storage aboard.
We are docked at the Dauphin Island Marina, immediately on the left as you cross the bridge onto the island. See the Contact Us link to a detailed map.
Not while fishing aboard the MAR-T.
I want my guests to have a fun and safe time while fishing on the MAR-T. I have seen some bad things happen to people's feet from fish fins and teeth. I like my guests to wear a full foot covering shoe with a nonmarking sole.
Flip flops offer no protection for your toes and tend to have very little traction. Bare feet? No way.

This is what king mackeral teeth do to a human toe.
By all means. You will need one to carry your catch home in, unless you catch and release fish. I also allow one guest cooler on the boat for food and drinks. I have ample cooler space available for your needs.
All bait and ice is provided. If you want to bring something of your own choosing for bait, please feel free to do so.
